MEDIA RELEASE/ANNOUNCEMENT
Dominican Poultry Farmers are invited to attend a very important Avian Influenza and Biosecurity Workshop.
On Thursday February 25, 2016 the Dominica Poultry Association in collaboration with the Livestock Development Unit, Ministry of Agriculture, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and CaribVET will be conducting an Avian Influenza and Biosecurity Workshop for all Dominican Poultry Farmers at the Public Service Union Building, Valley Road, Roseau from 8:30am to 1:00pm.
The Workshop is funded by the European Union and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA).
Dominica is free of Avian Influenza.
However, international trends for disease spread require that Dominican Farmers be prepared to respond in the event that animal diseases pose a threat. Be aware that Avian Influenza is already in North America and Central America reaching as far south as Belize.
Remember that we need to understand what measures must be put in place to secure our animals, our farms and our livelihoods in the event of an outbreak of this disease in Dominica.
More information about the workshop may be obtained by calling the Dominica Poultry Association at 275-0724 or the Livestock Development Unit at 266-3827.
