International Women’s Day

 IWD

International Women’s Day is being observed annually on March 8th, a day declared by the United Nations to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.  This year the global theme is “Pledge for Parity” calling on everyone – men and women – to take urgent action to accelerate gender parity, and to move from talk to purposeful action for women to realize the limitless potential they offer to development.

This year, the Bureau of Gender Affairs is taking pragmatic action to accelerate gender parity and will be celebrating the day through a ‘DA Women Rock Purple Campaign’ to raise awareness about women’s equal leadership, respect and value to development.  The daring colour purple represents an unapologetically ambitious, confident and committed woman who boldly stands in solidarity with the women who are not brave enough to fearlessly breakdown the barriers that prohibit them from reaching their full potential.

The Agriculture Division works with many women farmers and thus see the need to support this day, in recognition to the many women farmers tolling the soil to provide food for us all.

We are therefore inviting everyone to take action by participating in the day’s planned activities and the week leading up to the 8th.

We also encourage you to monitor the Bureau Facebook page for further information on what’s happening on that day. Also, you may wish to contact us at telephone numbers 266 3344, 266 3023 or emailThis email address is being protected from spambots.
