Agro-meteorology Workshop at Calibishie Resource Centre (March 23rd,2016)

"The One-Day session was timely and met its’ objectives. Farmers who were not aware of the bulletin (circulation, interpretation/understanding, uses/applications) requested that they receive it monthly"

This is to certify that on Wednesday 23rd March 2016, 20 farmers, 3 met officers, Mr. A. Trotter along with 5 Agricultural Officers (4 from the Northeast), participated in an Agro-meteorology workshop facilitated by the Dominica Meteorological Service (DMS) Office and Mr. Adisa Trotter of the Division of Agriculture (DOA). This was at the Calibishie Resource Centre from 10:00am-4:00pm

 Introduce participating farmers to Caribbean Climate through data and statistics of the DMS with an objective to assisting them in understanding changing weather patterns (DMS)

 Brief farmers with an overview of the present ‘dry’ and anticipated ‘wet’ seasons (DMS).

 The workshop sought to enlighten farmers on the implications of changing weather patterns on crop and livestock production, with adaptation and mitigation practices that can be implemented at the farm level (Mr. A. Trotter, DMS).

 Introduce farmers to the Agro-meteorology Bulletin with a major objective of assisting them in being able to understand, interpret, and utilize this indispensable bulletin for better more-informed decision-making at the farm level where adaptation, mitigation, or management of specific enterprises are concerned amidst changing weather patterns (Mr. A. Trotter, DMS).

The One-Day session was timely and met its’ objectives. Farmers who were not aware of the bulletin (circulation, interpretation/understanding, uses/applications) requested that they receive it monthly, Mr. C. Toulon will work closer with the DMS and Mr. Trotter in this regard, and a follow-up meeting was (in the interim) scheduled for July 2016.

Lunch was provided by the DMS who were most grateful for the opportunity to continue working with the DOA in perspicacity to assisting farmers in understanding the challenges of – and measures to cope with – changing weather patterns where the Agro-met Bulletin is concerned.

Agriculturally Expendably yours,
