China Aid Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project Description

According to the Agreement between the government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project has been implemented since 2005. Each period of the project for two years and so far is the Sixth Phase of the project.

Content of the Project: The Chinese government send an Agricultural Technical Team to Dominica, build up a demonstration center with necessary facilities and conduct introducing experiments and demonstration, as well as extension services and training of new variety and technology. The technical team works together with the Ministry of Agriculture to serve all farmers in Dominica.

The former demonstration center was located in Hillsborough between 2005 and 2011 which completely destroyed by flood in 2011. Then it was relocated to One Mile, Portsmouth and officially opened on May 14th, 2014. After years of development, now the new demonstration center has already been done.

The period of Phase Six is from September 2015 to September 2017. Since the implementation of Phase Six, more than 30 crop varieties have been successfully introduced by the Chinese Agricultural Team, such as zucchini, color peppers, purple sweet potato, purple lettuce, etc. Over 210,000 high quality seedlings were propagated and 190,000 of them were distributed. 175 agricultural extension visits were conducted and 2,566 farmer and students have benefited. And over 100 agricultural materials and tools distribution activities were conducted, which including greenhouse plastics, mulch, fly nets, and saran nettings, etc.
